Bored in your current job?

What is boredom?

I know we all know the feeling, but do we actually know what it means to be bored, what causes it and how to fix it?

I took some time after listening to yet another one of my friends complain, to truly understand what boredom is and if there was anything any of my friends could do about it other than suffer the daily effects.

What I found out is that boredom is a state of being, it is when we have disengaged from what we are doing and lost interest. Looking at it like that, you can see how devasting the effects can be when you become bored at work or even worse bored with your work.

I am a big believer in choosing a positive mindset every day, but before you click off this article, hear me out. I am not one to ignore my feelings and if after I’ve sat down and evaluated my thoughts and feelings and can truly say that my work no longer fulfils me, or I need a bigger challenge; I then set out on a brainstorming mission to find or create a way to rectify the situation or find another opportunity that could possibly engage and excite me once more.

It’s no good to continue complaining, that just depresses you more and makes finding a creative solution all that much harder. We are the creators of our lives and nothing happens without our conscious choice and subsequent action. So, what is your decision?

To inspire you to live the authentic you, I have listed a few helpful hints below.

  1. Take the time to evaluate your life and work. Nail down specifically what it is that makes you feel bored, you can’t change what you don’t know.
  2. Determine whether it is an issue that can be rectified by a change of perspective or maybe even a change of job responsibilities.
  3. If you like where you work, talk to your boss, they might come up with some suggestions or a solution to help you rediscover the spark.
  4. If you don’t want to stay where you are, then start searching for opportunities that you feel may be of interest and rather than assuming, speak to someone already in that role, so you don’t find yourself in the same bored situation all over again.

It is important to make the most out of the time we have and life’s too short to spend another minute bored. Find your passion and work towards creating the life of your dreams.

    Thanks Lia!!
This is a great read and I’m in the exact position… I couldn’t stay with my current job as it was making me feel really down and there was no where to go… so I resigned…..
I wished I had done a trade when I was younger but never did… I’m currently looking into doing my HR licence so will see where I end up.
